Kasanga (Ufipa), Lake Tanganyika. Mji wa Kasanga Kasanga (Ufipa), Lake Tanganyika. 

Mji wa Kasanga ulifahamika kama Bismarckburg enzi za utawala wa mkoloni wa Kijerumani. Mita 810 juu ya usawa wa bahari, huu ndio mji wa pili kujipatia umashuhuri baada ya Nairobi. (Utahitaji kusoma zaidi kuhusu Kilwa).

Mji huu huitwa Liemba inayotafasiriwa na wakaazi kama ‘Eneo tambarale lenye NYIKA isiyo na milima’. 

Hapo NYIKANi (ziwani) yupo samaki aitwaye NTANGA; msumbufu na taabu kuvuliwa. Samaki huyo (Ntanga) na Ziwa (Nyika) ndio waliochangia kupatikana kwa jina Tanganyika. 

Kwakuwa, Mji wa Kasanga ulikuwepo tokea enzi zile (1888) hapo Ziwa Tanganyika basi ni dhahiri shahiri Taifa la Tanganyika lilijipatia jina lake kutokea ziwani hapa. 

Ziwa Tanganyika lina historia na takwimu za ‘kibiblia’ (Zinashangaza), juu yake kilielea chombo kikongwe cha majini kilichoitwa Graf Von Goetsen; meli ya kivita iliyopiga kila adui aliyesogelea koloni la Wajerumani. Meli hiyo ambayo sasa inaitwa Liemba (MV) ndio meli kongwe duniani na baada ya kuzamishwa wakati wa vita iliibuliwa na kuhudumia watu na mizigo kati ya Tanzania yetu, Congo na Burundi. 

MV Liemba ilisafirishwa katika makasha ndani ya meli kupitia bahari ya Hindi tokea Ujerumani, kisha kwa reli hadi Kigoma na kuunganishwa na Wapagazi ziwani Tanganyika. Lakini kwa sasa haitoi huduma tena tokea mwaka juzi.

Swali ni Je? Licha ya uzuri na ubora wa Ziwa Tanganyika, hatuoni hitaji kubwa la kuwa na meli ziwani hapa!

Wakati ujao nitaenda Kigoma kuitazama MV Liemba ilipolala, lakini ukitaka kuijua vema nenda katazame makala ya Zuhura Yunus ‘BBC’ iliyoangazia meli hiyo kongwe duniani.
